Heatwave Alert in Gujarat: 13 Districts on High Alert as Temperatures Soar Above 40°C

Gujarat Weather Forecast: The whole of India is succumbing to summer now, and Gujarat is preparing to face a fierce heat wave. This is being announced by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which has declared a heat wave alert for such districts in the state. After today’s sabbatical from such declarations, it does read above 40 degrees centigrade over the next three or four days.

Meanwhile, a scorching, humid weather warning is also predicted for Saurashtra, Kutch, South Gujarat, and some coastal areas until 12 March 2025. Well! Let’s talk about the forecast, the effects caused by it, and ways to keep safe in such bloody weather.

Heat-wave Alert: In Which Districts Does It Affect?

It issues a yellow alert for several districts and predicts the possibility of a heat wave. The alert was also valid for Kutch, Surendranagar, Rajkot, and Amreli at about 9 am on Sunday, March 9, 2025. On that same day, hot and humid weather stages will be built, which make it necessary for residents in that region to take precautionary measures.

It is expected that by March 10, 2025, the heat intensity would ramp up more and include 13 district alerts:

  • Kutch, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Surendranagar, Botad, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Amreli, Junagadh, Surat, and Valsad.

The maximum temperature in these areas will likely hold on between 40-42 °C, while the minimum temperature is expected to rise by 2-3 degrees. Hence, there will be more discomfort added.

Gujarat Weather Forecast for March 11 and 12

The heatwave would continue; March 11 would be the same weather condition predicted for Kutch-Saurashtra, North Gujarat, and portions of South Gujarat. Yellow alert goes to:

  • Kutch, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Surendranagar, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Botad, Bhavnagar, Amreli, Junagadh, Vadodara, Surat, and Valsad.

By March 12, 2025, the alert will still be valid for seven districts:

  • Banaskantha, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Amreli, Bhavnagar, and Vadodara.

Impact of the Heatwave

A heatwave means more than just some bad weather; it is a set of serious health risks. Prolonged exposure to very high temperatures can cause heat stress diseases, especially for groups at risk, such as children, the elderly, and those with chronic or known illnesses. Symptoms such as dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke can aggravate quickly without proper precautions.

Staying Safe During a Heatwave

These few tips can help you and your family stay safe:

  • Stay Indoors: Avoid stepping outside from 11 AM to 4 PM.
  • Hydrate Often: Drink as much water as possible, irrespective of thirst; take home-made power drinks, like ORS, lassi, lemon water, buttermilk, or plain rice water (torani), for replenishing electrolytes.
  • Wear Loose Clothing: Loose clothes made of lightweight fabrics are ideal.
  • Sunscreen Yourself: Protect yourself from the harmful rays with hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
  • Check on Vulnerable Individuals: Keep an eye on children, the elderly, or pets to ensure they are safe from the heat.
